Editing

The purpose of writing is to communicate.

As a writer, you need a skillful editor to review and refine your communication before you release it to the world. As your editor, I will find and resolve all errors, from slight to significant, which could otherwise detract from your work. I will support you in producing clear, consistent, compelling text. Editing allows you to present your best writing to your readers.

I bring to your project many years of editorial experience, professional development and certification in editing, experience teaching grammar and copyediting courses, and skill in balancing close attention to detail with understanding of the wider narrative.

I respect your ideas, intention, and voice. Your text is not rewritten or needlessly changed. It is carefully polished into the best version of itself.

My editing process ensures:

•  Words are spelled correctly; compounds are treated appropriately.
•  Sentences are clear and meaningful; errors in grammar, syntax, and usage are emended.
•  Discrepancies, wordiness, and potential points of confusion are noted, with suggestions.
•  Punctuation is standardized, following Chicago Manual of Style conventions if another style manual is not assigned.
•  Citations or notes are properly formatted and correspond to entries in a reference list or bibliography.
•  Manuscript aligns with any writing standards and formatting requirements of an assigned style manual, such as Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), or one provided by a publisher or university.
